History: Then & Now Premiering on July 13th at 1:00 p.m.

In the hurly-burly of life, especially the distractions and anxieties spawned by social media and the eternal TV plea “Don’t touch that dial,” we conservatives can easily forget that conserving something is our chief business. The Semiquincentennial reminds us that our Founders consulted history and moral lessons from literature in governing a new republic. Rather than letting current events and perpetual digital chatter shape our lives too much, we have American culture to preserve: neighbors, places of worship, habits of the heart, and the stories – historical and imaginative – that shaped the thoughts and conduct of our predecessors, in effect, how to live. Novels, originating in England in the eighteenth century and burgeoning in America until the 1970s, shaped thinking and conduct at least as much as histories and biographies did. Down the way, our club might read and discuss such works, but for now, let us note the influence of a medium profoundly influencing minds since the 1920s: movies. Accordingly, our club will show five films about the goodness of America through December 2026. Military tales dominate this first batch, but other aspects of American life are being planned for perhaps six films in the spring.
The Robson Ranch Republican Club is hosting 5 movie showings this fall. Admission is FREE! We hope you will bring your friends and enjoy the films. Show times are listed below. All showings are in the Robson Ranch Clubhouse in the Lone Star Legacy Room. The times vary. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to showtime.
