The Battle of Okinawa (1 April-21 June 1945) prepared the way for massive bombing of Japan, which ended the war, firebombs killing far more Japanese than our two nukes did. Army medic and conscientious objector Desmond T. Doss earned the Medal of Honor for rescuing 75 wounded Americans.

About the event
Our Constitution, adopted on 17 September 1787, adds a Bill of Rights resembling that of the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The First Amendment guarantees the freedom to practice one’s faith. About 75 American soldiers on Okinawa, the bloodiest battle in the Pacific Theater, owe their lives to our Founders’ conservative foresight.
That freedom brings suffering and abuse to a humble Seventh Day Adventist, whose conscience forbids bearing arms. Even though a letter signed by President Roosevelt permitted him to serve as a medic, the Army places him in basic infantry training with the 77th “Statue of Liberty” Infantry Division, which fought four major battles from island to island.
Basic trainees ridicule, curse, and even beat the presumed coward. Later gaining medical training, he rejoins them, quickly earning gratitude for treating wounded comrades. The supreme test of fidelity and of loving his neighbor comes when his unit becomes the…
